Nordland, Nordland Archipelago, Norway

68.21° N, 13.74° E September 2025
Chalk, charcoal, and seawater on fine white sand within a rocky inlet.
After scouting shifting wind and tides, the site was chosen for its natural "amphitheater." Two figures—classical in posture, leaning into one another—were drawn at scale so the lines echo beach contours and shallow tidal channels.
Seawater set the pigment; sunlight and wind began the erasure soon after.
Haven speaks to union and wholeness in a divided world—a refuge where love rests, unguarded. A quiet cove for the soul: fragile, luminous, and temporary, like the shoreline itself.

Held is a journey into tenderness—an ephemeral series created on white-sand coves and pale granite shores in Norway's archipelago. Using only chalk and charcoal with seawater, I painted directly onto the shore, letting tide, wind, and light shape the final form. These portraits were born at the water's edge: one a father holding his child, the other two figures in quiet union, their lines echoing ripples and rock grain. Each was made in a narrow weather window—vulnerable to surf, sun, and rising tide—then disappeared with the next high water and rainfall.
